Amerigo Vespucci died in Seville from Malaria in February, 1512. There were no cures and people didn't even know how Malaria was passed from one person to another during that time. As a result, many died due to ignorance of the disease.

Amerigo Vespucci was born on March 18,1454 in Florence ,Italy. He died in Seville, Spain on February 22, 1512. He was the third child of Sergionastagio Vespucci and Lisa di Giovanni Mini. His father was a notary (certified of documents) of Money Changer's Guild and the Vespucci family was considered one of the most cultured and respected families of Florence.
Amerigo's uncle, Giorgio Antonio Vespucci supervised his studies. He helped Amerigo with his interest in astronomy and the study of the universe. Giorgio was a canon (priest), a scholar, a collector of manuscripts, and the owner of a library. He opened a school in is convent of San Marco for the sons of the respected families of Florence. When Amerigo was of age, he attended his uncle's school. His uncle taught him to perfect his Latin, the language of scholars. He also taught him physical sciences, astronomy, cosmography, and geography. Amerigo's father had plans for his son to enter the commercial life and have a mercantile career where had would save the family's fortune.
Amerigo Vespucci claimed he found North America in a book he wrote and a German map maker took him for his word naming it after him. Yet, there is no historical evidence he did what he said he did. So, his greatest accomplishment could be that he was a great liar.
Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand were Amerigo Vespucci's main patrons, but he also sailed with assistance from Portugal. After moving to Spain in 1492, Vespucci began taking jobs on ships and seven years later went on his first voyage. His voyages took him to what is now modern day Brazil and Argentina.
