An outside force.
A force acting on the ball, at an angle to its line of motion, will cause its direction of motion to change.
A single pulley system is used to change direction of the pulling force line.
It means any change in -- speed -- direction -- or both. Constant or 'uniform' motion means steady speed in a straight line.
In that case, it will change direction - move differently than just in a straight line.
a straight line
A voltage is applied to a signal line. The voltage of the line changes gradually from 0 to +V. The "edge speed" is the rate of change of voltage of the line. A voltage is applied to a signal line. It doesn't. For example, you can go in a straight line, and speed up or slow down, without changing direction. And if there is both a change in direction and a change in speed, the change of speed wouldn't be the CAUSE for a change in direction. (On the other hand, both can be caused by a force applied to an object.)

No line of latitude is a north/south line. A move to the north or south is a change of latitude.
