I do not have your answer; however, I have an important lead. Until the 1970s, their name was originally "Master Charge." This name change was for obvious P.R. reasons and not to shove the fact that a person was charging their life away. On a side note Visa had changed their name near the same time period. However, I cannot recall the previous name, because they had changed it so greatly.
