So it reaches a stable state , it is able to exist as a solid. This is more favourable than anions surrounded by anions which would reperl one another.

In an ionic lattice each cation is surrounded by anions and each anion is surrounded by cations. In this way attraction between opposite charges is maximised and at the same time repulsions between like charges are minimised.
